Yazneg is a minor antagonist in J.R.R. Tolkien's novel, The Hobbit. He is an Orc of considerable rank within the band of Orcs inhabiting the caves in the Misty Mountains.
His primary role in the story is to challenge the commands and decisions of the Great Goblin, the leader of the Orcs. Yazneg is particularly vocal in questioning the Great Goblin's handling of Thorin's company of dwarves, whom the Orcs have captured. He suspects the dwarves are more important than they appear.
Yazneg's fate is left ambiguous in the book. He is present during the confrontation between the Great Goblin and the dwarves. While the other orcs are attacking the dwarves, Yazneg is likely killed when Gandalf intervenes and slays the Great Goblin.
While a minor character, Yazneg's dialogue and skepticism contribute to the depiction of the Orcs as a hierarchical and somewhat fractious society.
